Our Story
Treasured Yarns is a small, woman-owned online yarn shop in Oregon with a simple mission: to rescue quality yarn, make it more affordable, and help it get back into the hands of people who will create with it.
It all started with a grandma named Heidi. After years of creative dabbling in embroidery, needlepoint, cross stitch, and knitting, she picked up a crochet hook because she wanted to make toys for her grandchildren. Amigurumi quickly led to baskets, blankets, cardigans, and a growing list of projects to try. As the projects multiplied, so did the yarn, and before long, yarn was stashed in every room of the house.
Along the way, Heidi developed a discerning eye for fiber. She learned that yarn quality can make a real difference in a finished project, and that beautiful yarn is often overlooked, passed along, or left without a new home when its original owner is finished with it.
That realization became Treasured Yarns. Her current passion is mosaic crochet, with its striking colorwork and the wealth of patterns available to explore.
Our Yarn Rescue Work
Today, we source yarn from estates, private collections, destashes, and yarn-store closings. We look for yarn that still has plenty of creative life left and make it available to knitters and crocheters at more affordable prices.
Our shop is refreshed regularly with favorite fibers, discontinued colors, unexpected treasures, and yarn looking for its next project. Before anything joins existing inventory, it is carefully inspected, sealed in plastic bags, and quarantined in a freezer. After quarantine, the yarn is sorted for the shop, donation, or removal from circulation. This process helps keep usable yarn in use, reduces waste, and gives makers the opportunity to work with quality fibers.
More Than a Yarn Shop
Treasured Yarns is built on the belief that creativity should be accessible.
We donate usable yarn to people and groups who create for hospitals, senior centers, churches, disaster-relief efforts, and individuals who need supplies but may not be able to purchase them.
When rescued yarn is not a fit for our shop, it can still become a hat, blanket, shawl, prayer project, or source of comfort for someone else. Every purchase helps support the work of rescuing, preparing, and redistributing yarn that still has plenty of life left in it.
What We Value
Accessibility
We work to make quality yarn more attainable for knitters and crocheters at every stage of their creative journey.
Sustainability
We believe the most sustainable yarn is often yarn that already exists. By rescuing and rehoming yarn, we help keep useful fiber out of the waste stream and in the hands of makers.
Care
We thoughtfully inspect, grade, package, and ship every order. We want shopping secondhand yarn to feel exciting, trustworthy, and full of possibility.
Wholeheartedness
We put our heart and soul into everything we do, from hand-selecting our yarn inventory to shipping packages with care. We value customer happiness and feedback, and will do everything we can to ensure that your Treasured Yarns experience is positive.
Community
Yarn brings people together. We are grateful to be part of a community of makers who share skills, encouragement, supplies, and the belief that handmade items matter.
